APAGS Leaders Meet-Up in Washington, D.C.

APAGS leaders met in Washington, DC, in March to discuss issues pertinent to graduate students and meet with APA leaders, including the CEO, APA presidential trio, and additional leaders from APA Boards and Committees.

Along with APA’s Office of Strategic Insights, the APAGS Executive Committee delivered a presentation to raise awareness about the degree to which current graduate students are facing financial hardships and to encourage advocacy around graduate school affordability.

Virtual APA Psychology Grad Student Fair

Virtual APA Psychology Grad School Fair

Registration for all prospective psychology graduate students is free. The goal of the fair is to connect graduate psychology programs with a diverse group of students, including current undergraduates, graduate students seeking to further their education beyond their current degree, and individuals returning for their graduate education.

APA Strategic Plan

In February 2024, the APA Council of Representatives adopted a revised strategic plan to carry the organization forward into the coming years, enabling a focus on the association’s efforts toward maximizing the impact APA can have on complex issues facing the field of psychology and broader society.

APA Council of Representatives February 2024 Meeting
Aldo Barrita, APAGS chair and representative to Council and Council Leadership Team, and Quincy Guinadi, APAGS representative to the APA Board of Directors, attended the Council of Representatives meeting that took place from February 22–24, 2024. The Council of Representatives voted on several resolutions, guidelines, and policy statements, including the following:

A resolution calling for ending the placement of youths in isolation in juvenile justice settings, except for emergencies, and then only for a maximum of a 4-hour period.
A resolution aimed at promoting secure firearm storage practices.
A policy statement affirming evidence-based care for transgender, gender diverse, and nonbinary children, adolescents, and adults. The policy affirms APA’s support for access to evidence-based clinical care for transgender, gender diverse, and nonbinary children, adolescents, and adults.
A resolution on combating misinformation and promoting psychological science literacy.

APA 2024
Graduate students, we hope that you will join us in Seattle for APA 2024, August 8–10. APAGS has put together an excellent line up of programming geared specifically for graduate students in psychology. In addition to our regular Convention programming, APAGS will host several informal networking events in our Emerging Leader Network space in the Solutions Center. We hope to see you there!

Congratulations to the winners of the APAGS Psychological Science Research Grant (PSRG)! APAGS received many stellar applications and we are so pleased to announce this year’s winners. The APAGS PSRG provides support for graduate students conducting psychological science research studies.
